Based on the fine art and photographic material of the Szöllősi-Nagy – Nemes Collection, a new Modern Art Gallery (MOMŰ) opened with a double exhibition entitled Connecting Europe and its doors in Balatonfüred, in the spring of 2023. The rich private collection representing modern and contemporary, international and Hungarian geometric came home from Paris after thirty years, and found a home in Balatonfüred. It is an institution established within the framework of the Veszprém-Balaton European Capital of Culture project. This introductory exhibition presents a possible cross-section of the collection to the public: Curator Rita Somosi selected from the photographic art material under the heading Encounters, while András Rényi organized an exhibition from the fine arts collection entitled The playground of images. András Szöllősi-Nagy (hydrologist, university professor) and Judit Nemes (painter, Széchenyi Member of the Academy of Arts) started in Budapest in their teens, at the end of the sixties in the construction of their fine art collection. In the beginning, they managed to acquire works from some artists of the European School who were still alive at the time, and then over time, they turned to younger contemporary artists.  At the end of the eighties, work in Paris called the couple, who adapted their collection concept to the new environment through mostly Hungarian artists and photographers living in France in the 20th century they sought to acquire their works. Their perspective from the mid-nineties broadened: the focus of the collection is on the international constructive – geometric – concrete art was added. First French, then Swiss, Dutch, German, Swedish, Nordic, Latin American and Japanese geometric artists were included in the now thousands of works counter collection. The oeuvre of the collectors is now coming to fruition after more foreign exhibitions- in the spirit of the idea of ”Connecting Europe” – it will return home for good and thanks to Balatonfüred it adds to the cultural development of both the Hungarian public and foreign tourists and is used for leisure activities.
